Zomato plans to cut off its 13% of workers from all over the country amid COVID-19. Besides, a 50% salary cut was also announced over the workforce. According to Zomato officials, the decision is made because of lockdown since the workers have not much things to do.
The continuous extension of lockdown made the whole economy standstill. The founder and CEO of Zomato wrote that “While we continue to build a more focused Zomato, we do not foresee having enough work for all our employees.”
The Zomato officials will be in contact with the affected 13% of the workers in the coming few days through zoom video calls. COO and co-founder Gaurav Gupta and CEO food delivery business Mohit Gupta are the two people who will interact with those workers.
The team said that they will provide full financial and emotional support for those affected by this. Those who impacted by the decision and laid off from the job will get a Zoom call invitation in their emails within 24 hours. The team will interact directly with the employees.
For the remaining not impacted workers, a message through email or DingTalk will be received in the next 6 hours and it will say that your jobs are here to stay.
After all, the 50% cut in the salary will not affect the staff with lower salaries. The cut-off percent is low for those employees instead, a 50% cut affects those with higher salary rates. Besides, many people have volunteered for a 100% cut in salary for almost six months.
The payment cut will not affect those who volunteered the cut. Beyond all, those workers who are out of work will get a 50% salary too. But during that period, they have to use 100% of their time to find a new job outside of Zomato.
