The confirmed COVID-19 cases all around the world are now at 5,105,897 and still counting. Pandemic took about 330,003 of lives from it. Besides, recovered cases are 2,035,432. After all calculations, now there are 2,740,462 active coronavirus cases globally.

Zomato plans to cut off its 13% of workers from all over the country amid COVID-19. Besides, a 50% salary cut was also announced over the workforce. According to Zomato officials, the decision is made because of lockdown since the workers have not much things to do.
While the number of CoronaVirus cases have crossed 75,000 in the country, the national capital alone has registered over 10,000 cases. The number of cases is on a constant rise. On the morning of 14 May, the Health Department released a bulletin. It pointed out the number of active cases to be 7,998 after identifying 359 fresh new cases. The bulletin also mentioned 20 deaths between April and May according to the case sheets received by the auditing COVID-19 death committee.
Since the outbreak of novel coronavirus, the government of countries facing another big problem. It is the fake news spreading among the people through social media platforms. Government officials and the World Health Organization reached out to those social media platforms to stop fake news and invalid information.
India crossed 78,000 marks on COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. Besides, this week went past another milestone of 3602 new patients in one day. This is the first time the number crosses 4000 and became most cases reported in one day after the outbreak of the pandemic.
On 29 March, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order in respect to labour wages. The order specified- “employers, be it in the industry or in the shops and commercial establishments,” would have to pay wages to their workers and employees. And there should be no deduction or lag in such payments. The Union Ministry of Labour and Employment also issued an advisory. The order and guidelines were given in the light of the lockdown period. The sole objective was to support the laborers and employees from job loss and pay cuts. To ensure proper implementation, the MHA directed state authorities and union territories to penalize businesses which violate the order.
After almost eight weeks of lockdown, businesses have begun to raise their voices. A group of 11 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) based in Haryana filed a plea to pay 30 percent wages to their employees. The petition sought relief citing no business income under the lockdown. It also recommended the remaining 70 percent to be paid out of national emergency funds like PM Cares. Further, the plea highlighted the order to stood in violation of constitutional provisions.
However, the Supreme Court declined this petition on 8 May and denied interim protection against the MHA order.

The IT giant, Wipro is under pressure from the media and Pune Labour Commission. A complaint filed against it claims the corporation to have put 300 employees on bench. While an undisclosed number of entry level staff, mainly BPO employees, have seen a deduction in their salaries.
Vikas Panvelkar, Deputy Commissioner of Labour, Maharashtra, told The Economic Times, “We have not issued a show cause notice to the company, just forwarded a copy of the complaint against them and asked them to respond. We need both sides of the issue.”
Meanwhile, Maharashtra based IT union, National Information Technology Employees Sena (NITES) also filed a petition with the Commission. The petition seeks clarification on the complaint against Wipro. It iterated the MHA’s order to protect the interests of laborers and employees across the country. Earlier, the same union had filed complaints against tech firms like Capgemini and Amdocs, following employee pay cut tensions.
To steer clear of the controversy, a Wipro spokesperson stepped up in the media. The spokesperson stated, The speculation related to the workforce is unfounded and has no basis. Wipro categorically denies these rumors. There are no salary cuts for employees who are in between projects and are awaiting new assignments. Also, the company wants to reiterate that there are no retrenchment plans. Wipro has well defined policies and people practices in place to take care of its employees. Separately, Wipro is yet to receive any communication from the Labour Department. The company will present the facts before the department, as and when required.”
Since lockdown started in the country, food delivery made a space in the revenue of food delivery firms. Hotels and restaurants are out of business in all regions. Zomato used that situation and started delivering groceries.
After the chemical gas leakage at LG Polymers Industry in Andhra Pradesh, 8 people including a child lost their lives. The incident happened at 3 AM in the chemical plant of the firm at Gopalapatnam in Vishakapatnam district. The confirmed number of deaths by the Andhra Pradesh DGP Gautam Sawang is 6. But unofficial reports say the death toll is 8.
